CURRICULUM VITAE - HÜSEYİN AVNİ BOTSALI
- Born in Eskişehir/Turkey in 1957;
- Graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, 1980;
- Fulfilled military service under the Secretary General of Ministry of National Defence 1982-
83
- Admitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983 as candidate officer at the Directorate
General for International Security Affairs (NATO);
- Served as 3rd & 2nd Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Lisbon/Portugal, 1985-88;
- Appointed to Afghanistan as First Secretary of the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, 1988-91
- Joined UN International Staff as Senior Political Affairs Officer at the United Nations Good
Offices Mission in Afghanistan & Pakistan (UNGOMAP) 1991- 92,
he was designated as Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali’s liaison officer with
Mujahideen interim Government in Peshawar/Pakistan; subsequently he headed the Office
of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan and Pakistan (OSGAP)in Kabul, 1992-93;
- Returned to public service and was appointed as First Deputy Secretary General of the
Economic Cooperation Organisation in Tehran, 1993- 1996. Chaired ECO’s Trade and
Customs, Energy, Health, Environment and Narcotic Control Committees. He attended 49th
and 50th UNGA sessions, IBRD, IMF, UNCTAD meetings as observer and led the first ECO
Delegation to the EU Commission in 1995)
- Returned to Ankara to serve as the Head of Department for Middle East and Gulf
Affairs, MFA 1996-98
- Appointed as Counselor to Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. 1998-2001.
- In 2001 he became Turkey’s Consul General in Komotini, Greece where he served until
2004;
- Returned to Ankara to head the Middle East and Gulf Affairs Department for the
second time, 2004 - 2005
- He was promoted to Consul General of first grade in December 2005 to oversee the
reactivation of the Turkish Consulate in Mosul, province of Ninewah in the Republic of Iraq
- After several trips to the region, he assumed functions in June 2006 and launched the
Consulate in February 2007.
- Huseyin Avni Botsalı is married with Inci Somuncu Botsalı, graduate of linguistics & english
instructor. The couple has two daughters.
- Mr. Botsalı has been designated as Turkey’s Ambassador to Cairo ın July 2009 and
assumed his functions on December 1st 2009.
- He speaks English, and also communicates in French, German, Portuguese and Persian. |
